Maverick computer animator Steve Williams is the man behind three of the most game-changing developments in special effects: the water tentacle in The Abyss, the liquid metal T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. Thirty years on, he is an in-recovery alcoholic and outcast from Hollywood. This fascinating and unsentimental documentary charts his downfall, from his wild days throwing equipment-trashing parties at visual-effects company Industrial Light & Magic, to his professional and personal meltdowns. The film often paints Williams as his own worst enemy, while calling out some big film-making names for not better handling the situation. Full of frank interviews with old colleagues and marvellous movie-making anecdotes, this brings to life the Wild West feel of the effects industry at the time, with a fascinating creative at its centre.
