This festive romcom is so perfectly British that it even features a scene in which all cross-country trains are cancelled on Christmas Eve. Because of course they are. We meet students James (Asa Butterfield) and Hayley (Cora Kirk) as they say goodbye before heading home to their respective families for the holidays. On a whim, they both secretly hit upon the same cheeky plan: to turn up at each other's homes as a surprise. A comedy of errors then unfolds as misunderstanding follows misunderstanding, resulting in each of the young lovers stuck alone with the other's family. Matters are extra-awkward because James didn't tell Hayley he's rich, while Hayley's parents have no idea she has a boyfriend. Your Christmas or Mine? won't boggle you with unexpected plot twists, but it does contain all the essential Christmas-movie ingredients: lashings of warmth and humour, plus the potential for an occasional chin-wobble. Its biggest asset, however, is Kirk, a convincing, charismatic and thoroughly likeable presence from her very first line.
