Summary

Superhero action adventure starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Having retired from saving the world, Deadpool is living a quiet life as a used car salesman. However, when he discovers that the universe is deteriorating because of the death of Wolverine, Deadpool sets out into the multiverse to track down a variant of the cantankerous, knife-knuckled mutant that will help his world survive.

Jeremy Aspinall

A year after Deadpool 2 (2018), Ryan Reynolds's mutant Merc with a Mouth became part of the Disney-acquired Marvel Cinematic Universe, hence why this third adventure finds Wade Wilson/Deadpool dragged out of retirement by the Time Variance Authority. With typical fourth wall-smashing gusto, Wade declares himself the Marvel Jesus, but when he realises Matthew Macfadyen's TVA head honcho is no good, he teams up with a bitter, booze-guzzling multiversal variant of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman, in a welcome return). It's then that this action-packed romp hurtles into its own as the pair bicker and brawl with each other in an inter-dimensional dumping ground ruled over by psychic psycho Cassandra Nova (The Crown's Emma Corrin). The self-aware send-ups come thick and fast, as do some genuinely gob-smacking cameos and callbacks to Marvel's cinematic history. Meanwhile, the wanton slice-and-dice violence, swearing and throwaway gibes quell any concerns the character would get Disneyfied. Reynolds is at his impish best and has the perfect foil in Jackman, who provides gravitas among all the mirth and bloody mayhem.
