Reclusive former special ops agent Barry Pepper's past catches up with him in a muddled thriller that risks leaving viewers baffled, bored or both. Tracked down by his old boss Colm Feore, he's persuaded to join the hunt for the assassin of his erstwhile colleagues, the whereabouts of an encoded computer file and rescue Feore's kidnapped daughter. All the above is trotted out in reams of stagnant dialogue, but an equal amount of screen time is devoted to Pepper shooting dead an unseen criminal mastermind's numerous henchman, with remarkably consistent accuracy. The plot and its over-reliance on double- and triple-crosses leaves far too many questions unanswered, to the point where it's a struggle to determine - or care about - which side are the villains, although Pepper's kindly nature suggests he's one of the good guys. As ever, he's a quietly assured actor doing the best he can with dubious material, and deserves infinitely better roles than this.
