Peggy Evans stars as this routine thriller's titular Penny, a model with aspirations to be an amateur detective, who becomes embroiled in foiling a plot to smuggle fugitive Nazis out of Germany. The death of a British secret agent reveals he was following a lead of suspected clues in the newspaper comic strip for which Penny poses, so she and the strip's artist (Christopher Lee) set out to uncover the truth. Even the slightest tug on a thread unravels the story's weaknesses and inconsistencies, although the film does offer an interesting portrait of an immediately post-war Britain of austerity and food rationing. Evans is a prim and proper heroine, with little to do but look pretty and deliver laughably clichéd dialogue. Ultimately, the film is perhaps most notable for early substantive roles for Lee and a then 16-year-old Diana Dors as Penny's flatmate and secretary to a Scotland Yard inspector.
