A teacher faces a moral minefield in this German-language drama that jangles the nerves from start to finish. Carla Nowak (Leonie Benesch) is a new maths and PE teacher who finds she might be on the wrong end of the ethical equation after a series of thefts leaves one of her pupils targeted for no good reason. Carla takes matters into her own hands to try to catch the culprit, and her chief suspect is a member of staff who also has a child in Carla's class. Soon, Carla is perceived to have flouted the strict rules of the school system, not just by the pupils and their parents but also by her colleagues. Director Ilker Catak winds the tension tight as he shows how an uncompromising rule book can add up to trouble for everyone, and Benesch is fantastic as the idealistic teacher worn down by unimaginable stress.
