Summary

Federico Fellini's Oscar-winning drama starring Marcello Mastroianni. A film director goes to a spa hotel to recuperate following his latest success, but he becomes confused when his peace is constantly disrupted by his producer and other colleagues who want to know how his next project, a sci-fi movie, is progressing.

IMDB

Review

A star rating of 5 out of 5.

David Parkinson

Having made six features and three short films, director Federico Fellini reckoned that this mesmerising insight into the creative process took his tally of movies to eight-and-a-half. The winner of the best foreign language film Oscar, this is a complex and painfully honest study of a man in a personal and professional crisis. After La Dolce Vita, Fellini was faced with the problem of repeating his success and this soul-searching film, with its mix of daydreams, memories, nightmares and frustrating confrontations, is a fantasy chronicle of his attempts to sustain his reputation as a cinematic genius. As the tormented film-maker, the exceptional Marcello Mastroianni is superbly supported by Anouk Aimée and Claudia Cardinale.
