A group of military hobbyists and a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints message feature heavily in this Second World War movie. In a wintry Europe following the 1944 Malmedy massacre during the Battle of the Bulge, a band of misfits pull together to beat the Nazis. A no-nonsense sergeant (Peter Holden), a Red Cross medic (Alexander Niver), a bullet-headed palooka (Lawrence Bagby) and a resourceful corporal (Corbin Allred) unite, as they help a stranded RAF pilot (Kirby Heyborne) deliver crucial battle orders to the top brass. Given the meagre budget, director Ryan Little makes a decent fist of the action, helped by the contributions of war re-enactment enthusiasts. The authentic-sounding banter helps to round out the characters' backstories, too, but the acting isn't the best and Heyborne's limey accent borders on parody. The Mormon theme is no more subtly conveyed, with Allred's Bible-clutching outsider winning hearts and minds as the unit trudges back from behind enemy lines.
