This workmanlike spaghetti western follows bounty hunter George Hilton on the trail of Gilbert Roland and his gang that has stolen $300,000 in gold from a train. As Hilton closes in on his quarry, greed takes control and sets the scene for a string of double-crosses and violent showdowns, populated by ruthless kidnappers, outlaws disguised as priests, and convicts striking deals to avoid execution. There are times when the overcooked plot makes little sense, and director Enzo G Castelarri seems more concerned with mood and tone, attempting to evoke the atmosphere of earlier, better-known films in the subgenre. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly is an all too obvious inspiration (to the point where one character speaks a line lifted wholesale), but none of the leads have the charisma or menace to approach the heights of the Sergio Leone classic. Budget constraints mean the action sequences deliver only the lightest of punches, while intermittent forays into comedy just fall flat.
