The fuel-injected action franchise revs up for a further instalment, with petrolheads-turned-responsible parents Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez answering a call to get the old gang back together. Tasked with thwarting evildoers who have got their hands on hi-tech cyber-weaponry, Diesel is forced to face uncomfortable truths from his past and nullify a threat awkwardly close to home. The outlandish plot may not survive close scrutiny (the sci-fi elements are particularly silly) and, at close to two-and-a-half hours, the film risks overstaying its welcome, but there's no denying the bravura of the increasingly audacious, adrenaline-pumping stunt sequences. Box office dependable Diesel leads the charge with old-school movie charisma, while there are welcome returns for Kurt Russell's shady Mr Nobody, Charlize Theron's slinky criminal mastermind Cipher, and Helen Mirren's cockney villain Queenie.
