A star rating of 3 out of 5.
David Parkinson
Created by Bob Kane in 1939, the Caped Crusader made his movie debut in this high-camp serial. A 26-year western veteran, director Lambert Hillyer never gets to grips with the gleefully implausible story of Dr Daka, an undercover agent who plans to use his zombie army to deliver Gotham's radium supply to the Axis. He's not helped by the decidedly unheroic antics of Lewis Wilson and Douglas Croft as the eponymous duo. But J Carrol Naish makes a splendid villain and so, at the height of the 1960s TV show's popularity, this was reissued as An Evening with Batman and Robin.
