Three days in the life of a successful fitness influencer forms the backbone of this persuasive Polish drama. Magdalena Kolesnik plays Sylwia, a celebrated instructor who pushes for the burn and has 600,000 followers to show for it. To outsiders, it looks as though she has a life as perfectly sculpted as her physique, but after a tear-strewn post about her lonely existence goes viral, things start to change - not least as she gains the attention of an obsessive fan (Tomasz Orpinski). Written and directed by Magnus von Horn (The Girl with the Needle), Sweat hovers somewhere between satire and social document, a smartly drawn look at the way social media, and a worrying need for acceptance, has become integrated into so many lives. A terrific Kolesnik is thoroughly convincing as Sylwia, both a blitzkrieg of upbeat energy and utterly fragile at the same time. As she heads towards a coveted TV morning-show appearance, we're left with a dark but satisfying denouement.
