With episodes of Prime Suspect and Wallander on his CV, more was expected of director Philip Martin's feature debut. Screenwriter Richard D'Ovidio is more culpable, however, for welding together a batch of clichés and caricatures into a cornball story about an art forger who does one last job in order to spend time with his dying son. John Travolta scarcely convinces, as he squints over the duplicate of Claude Monet's Woman With a Parasol that will replace the 1875 original in Boston's Museum of Fine Arts so that a psychotic thug can settle a debt with an art-loving drug dealer. But he's more plausible trying to make things up to neglected teenage son Tye Sheridan, roguish Irish father Christopher Plummer, and junkie ex-wife, Jennifer Ehle. The heist is bereft of suspense, as is the dogged investigation by cop Abigail Spencer, while Travolta's bid to grant Sheridan three last wishes is ickily sentimental. Yet, even though this is far from good, it does have some disarming moments.
