A plane-surfing monster, enemy aircraft and a battle against sexism fuel this bonkers Second World War-set horror oddity. Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) stars as a mysterious woman who blags her way onto a B-17 bomber flight from New Zealand to Samoa. Trapped in a gun turret, she tries to convince the bigoted male crew that there's a monster scuttling around the fuselage. This is aimed squarely at the cult crowd, but even that audience may balk at the intense and claustrophobic first half, which clearly riffs off the classic Twilight Zone episode, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. The visuals are inventive, and the outlandish stunts are entertaining enough to keep the film watchable, even as it straddles the line between utter bilge and deranged genius.
