How many flag-waving British comedies during the Second World War rehashed the old "haunted house full of spies" plot? The year after Will Hay used the premise in The Ghost of St Michael's, his regular sidekicks Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott cropped up in this inferior version set on an Orkney island lighthouse, tailored for the talents of Arthur Askey. The main problem is the film's insistence on hammering home every gag, with Askey particularly at fault. There are compensations, however, notably the by-play between Moffatt and Marriott, and the performance of Googie Withers.
