Summary
A radio-singer, Bing Crosby, is none-too-concerned about his job, and an affair with Mona leads to his dismissal. A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Radio was huge in the 1930s and families listening in at home were starting to pose a threat to cinema, so Paramount cleverly exploited the trend by making this vehicle for radio stars on the big screen. The paper-thin plot has Stuart Erwin taking over a failing radio station run by George Burns and - guess what? - putting on an all-star show. So successful was this flick that three sort-of sequels followed, all successful. Somehow they lack the quaint and specific charm of the original, which even manages to bring some fresh cleverness to its familiar triangle subplot. The stars on display are priceless - here's Gracie Allen, Cab Calloway, Arthur "Street Singer" Tracy and the Boswell Sisters, plus star Bing Crosby at his peak, singing such gems as Please and Here Lies Love.
