A man-eating monster from Norse mythology feasts on the inhabitants of a remote Alaskan village in this humdrum made-for-TV fantasy horror. Freed from icy captivity by global warming, the creature starts picking off the hapless townsfolk during their annual Solstice celebrations, which, Amity Island-style, they refuse to call off despite the rising body count. It's up to an ice trucker, a DJ, a waitress, a retired general and crusty old hillbilly to save the day. There's no attempt at delayed gratification here - within minutes of the film's opening, there's a full frontal shot of the titular winged beast killing a fisherman. A charismatic cast performs above and beyond the call of duty, injecting some life into proceedings, even if they're mostly required to run listlessly from low-thrill aerial attacks, with a few getting picked off in bloodless death scenes. The wyvern itself is a serviceable enough CG beastie, but while the film clearly wants to be Tremors, it sadly falls way short.
