Summary

No doubt all the people involved in this project had their hearts and best intentions in the right place, but this drama ultimately fumbles the sensitive subject of domestic violence. Director Erin Dignam (who also wrote the script) manages to turn in an almost insulting and poorly paced drama which does its well-meaning cast a disservice. Robin Wright Penn (husband Sean Penn co-produced the film) is the woman still in love with her ex-partner despite his abuse, who is asked to testify against him by DA William Hurt, after another of the man's lovers throws herself in front of a car. Wright Penn is left with little to do other than walk around barefoot to convey her distress, while Hurt sleepwalks through his part. Look out for an extraordinary cameo from Sean Penn.
