Terry Staunton

An elite army unit tools up during time off when their buddy's wedding in Mexico is disrupted by an attack from a drugs cartel. Headed up by captain Kiefer Sutherland, the team's tuxedoes are set aside in favour of a little military hardware to thwart the bad guys and allow the happy couple to get hitched. There's little here to surprise or lead viewers into territory they've not visited before, despite director Justin Chadwick's efforts to bring some Sicario-style political thrills into otherwise traditionally gung-ho fare about the bonds between soldiers already scarred by what they've seen on the battlefield. Sutherland is a strong presence, clearly relishing a return to the action arena of his long-running TV show 24, but his character is frustratingly underwritten and plagued by a script stuffed with clichéd dialogue. His fellow squaddies make even less of an impression, shooting their way through a routine yarn with a pace best (and charitably) described as pedestrian.
