Summary

An orphanage runaway becomes a roller-skating champion, then contracts polio.

IMDB

Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Robyn Karney

Multitalented diminutive dynamo Mickey Rooney is the star of this unappealing drama about an orphan with a complex about his height who sets out to become a roller-skating champion, exhibiting ruthless ambition along the way. Rooney fans will be familiar with Mickey's brash, cocky brilliance but, although his presence enlivens this lacklustre movie, the character he plays is an unattractive one. Tay Garnett (who had seen better days at MGM) directs for 20th Century-Fox, whose relatively unknown contract player Marilyn Monroe appears as a girl named Polly.
