Summary
Animated fantasy sequel featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke and Kensington Tallman. Now 13 years old, Riley is an enthusiastic ice hockey player just weeks away from starting high school. But the night before she leaves home for summer camp, a "Puberty Alarm" goes off inside her head, where her emotions - led by the ever-positive Joy - are forced to contend with four new team-mates, not least the highly strung Anxiety, who soon takes charge.

The inner turmoil of now teenage hockey fan Riley is explored in Pixar's sprightly sequel. After the onset of puberty, the colourful characters representing emotions in her brain are joined by an altogether more complex, difficult crew: Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui. Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) are still at the heart - or should that be head? - of the action, but find themselves vying for control with these latecomers. The premise takes the franchise into recognisable coming-of-age territory, but with less of an acid tongue than peer pressure movies like Mean Girls or Heathers, and arguably more insight. With Riley essentially nine characters in one, it's a busy playing field, but there's certainly lots that will strike a chord with parents of ever-changing adolescents. Meanwhile, the backdrop of a young girl's mind provides endless avenues for invention, creating a film rich in colour, texture and a steady stream of sight gags.
