Based on the BBC radio serial by Edward J Mason (creator of The Archers), this early Hammer production stars Hy Hazell as the lady of the title. One half of a nightclub act, she becomes convinced that an artist (Andrew Keir) is the asylum fugitive she has seen in the newspapers. Less certain are her performing partner Michael Medwin, club owner Sidney James (sporting an outrageous Italian accent) and Scotland Yard's John Longden. Frantic rather than funny, this caper is nevertheless socked over with spirit by the effervescent Hazell, who also handles a couple of musical numbers with aplomb. Keep eyes peeled, too, for Oakley Court, the edifice abutting Bray Studios that would feature in many Hammer horror films to come.
