Supermodel Kate Moss and painter Lucian Freud take centre stage in this affectionate if sanitised biopic. In 2002, the impossibly glamorous Moss (Ellie Bamber) sits for Freud (Derek Jacobi) for a nude study, resulting in the celebrated painting Naked Portrait. She's 28, living in a whirlwind of clubs, drugs and fashion shoots. He's 80, a legend on the art scene. Somehow, they find common ground at a time when Moss needs a wise father (or grandfather) figure in her life. The radiant Bamber is perfect as Moss, and Jacobi brings a bohemian elegance to Freud, frequently chiding her for poor timekeeping. Writer/director James Lucas keeps things tasteful, swerving any suggestions of age-inappropriate frisson, but the fact that Moss is an executive producer on the film points to a safe approach in its storytelling. True, one scene shows the characters taking opium in Freud's hazy, sun-kissed garden, but compared to Jacobi's outing as the painter's peer Francis Bacon in 1998's Love Is the Devil, this provides only broad brushstrokes.
