Summary

Coming-of-age drama starring Mia McKenna-Bruce. After finishing their GCSE exams, three British girls head to a party resort on Crete where one of them, Tara, feels pressured to lose her virginity. Three girls head to the Med for a debauched holiday, a trip that one of their number will remember for all the wrong reasons. As the trio seek sun, sea and you-know-what in the Cretan town of Malia, this provocatively titled but sensitively handled British film deals smartly with issues of sexual consent. Tara (Mia McKenna-Bruce) is the virgin of the gang, and feels the pressure to hook up on holiday, despite support from her mates, Skye (Lara Peake) and Em (Enva Lewis), as they plunge into a whirlwind of clubs and pool parties. Directed and written by confident debutante Molly Manning Walker, the film takes a twist when Tara meets the arrogant Paddy (Samuel Bottomley). Their barely consensual night-time encounter on the beach leaves her confused and isolated, a state amplified by Manning Walker's innate ability to get inside her protagonist's head and plunge viewers into the hedonistic, all-night-party atmosphere around her. Driven by a vulnerable, raw and star-making turn by McKenna-Bruce, this is an impressive exploration of the pain of youth.
