Positioned between House of a Thousand Dolls (1967) and Witchfinder General (1968) on Vincent Price's CV, this South African western is something of a curio. A remake of William A Wellman's Yellow Sky (1948), director Robert D Webb's veld version is inferior but not without interest. Price plays Oupa, the ghost-town prospector who offers sanctuary to bank robber Stretch (Robert Gunner) and his gang after they survive an arduous desert crossing. Swiftly, the thieves begin to covet Oupa's cache of gold. But Oupa's granddaughter Willie (Diana Ivarson) falls for Stretch when he defies his greedy compadres by agreeing to let Oupa keep half of his stash. Price rather hams it up in the lead, while Ivarson provides intense support. Webb makes effective use of the locale, although the scenes involving an indigenous tribe are somewhat patronising and the shootouts are perfunctory.
