Rory Kinnear returns as real-life benevolent Burnley bank manager Dave Fishwick in this amiable sequel to the 2023 Netflix hit. Having established a community bank to offer an alternative to corporate high-street lenders, Fishwick now tackles the blight of payday loan companies, known for charging extortionate interest rates and ruining lives. It's a quest that sees him hook up with Jessica (Chrissy Metz), a journalist who leads him to target Carlo Mancini (Rob Delaney), the head of one of these unscrupulous lenders. Director Chris Foggin doesn't stray far from the cosy homespun formula that made the first film so appealing, with returning cast members including Hugh Bonneville and Jo Hartley also aiding the familiarity. There's even another cameo from Fishwick's beloved Sheffield rockers Def Leppard, who slightly stretch credulity as they aid Dave's journey. With its socially conscious message bubbling away but never force-fed, and Kinnear on fine form, this will please fans of the original.
