Jack Quaid stars in an economical crime drama as a young man with mental health issues who witnesses a kidnapping but struggles to convince police that what he saw actually happened. He turns instead to an initially reluctant - and short-tempered - ex-security guard neighbour (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and this unlikely pairing embarks on their own investigation, encountering all manner of ne'er-do-wells along the way. Despite the potential for chaos in Morgan's corner-cutting maverick detective work, director Duncan Skiles and screenwriter Sean Farley don't spring any outlandish surprises on this investigation, delivering a solidly plotted, well-paced ride with a perfect level of suspense. Quaid holds the attention as the gentle soul dogged by voices in his head but determined to do the right thing, ideally complemented by the more brutish Morgan, slowly adapting to his fellow amateur gumshoe's difficulties. It's not quite a buddy movie, but the subtlety of the leads' growing relationship adds charm. Malin Akerman provides good support as Quaid's older sister.
