Summary

Jonas brothers Joe, Kevin and Nick reprise their roles Connect 3 band members Shane, Jason and Nate in the third chapter of the feelgood Disney Channel musical. Disaster! Connect 3's support act cancels at short notice and the group needs to find fresh talent quickly to join them on a national tour. So they host a talent contest at Camp Rock, run by director Connie Torres (Maria Canals-Barrera), and invite the current intake to compete against each other for the glittering prize. The band's Lark (Sherry Cola) keeps an eye on proceedings as Sage (Liamani Segura), Her brother Desi (Hudson Stone), Callie (Brooklynn Pitts), Cliff (Casey Trotter), Fletch (Malachi Barton) and Rosie (Lumi Pollack) are swept up in the excitement of the contest. As the final showdown approaches, the teenagers must decide if their newly formed friendships are worth more than a short at fame and fortune. Demi Lovato comes as Camp Rock alumni Mitchie Torres, who is currently dating Shane from Connect 3

A reboot of a franchise that debuted in 2008, this legacy sequel leans hard on nostalgia not just for the original Camp Rock, but for the noughties golden era of the Disney Channel more broadly. Back at the lakeside summer camp, a new generation of rockers arrives, among them aspiring star Sage (Liamani Segura). This time, however, there's a competition underway: Camp Rock alumni Connect 3 (aka the Jonas Brothers, returning from the previous films) are in search of an opening act for their world tour, and are looking for the next big thing at their old stomping ground. Sage is ambitious, but will her new friendships and a crush on bad boy Fletch (Malachi Barton) derail her? Or will she find inspiration from another famous graduate of the programme (fellow returnee Demi Lovato)? Talented leads, satisfying callbacks for fans and an original enough story make for an inoffensive 92 minutes, even if this never quite matches the charm of the 2000s Disney cohort that also gave us Hannah Montana and High School Musical. The stakes rarely rise above a confiscated phone and the threat of disqualification, and it's crawling with cringe - but look past that and you'll find family-friendly fun, catchy tunes, and characters worth rooting for.
