Steven Seagal, largely seated, headlines this risible revenge thriller. Ageing mobster Augustino Finn Adair (Seagal) now wants a peaceful life. But his plans go awry when his son Desmond (Zack Ward) kills the son of an ex-cop named Frank (Johnny Messner). Bad move, kid: Frank is very good at unleashing bloody justice. However, his thirst for vengeance is undermined by the fact his old cop buddy, detective Munce, is on Adair's payroll offering protection. Rapper DMX adds a little energy as Munce; otherwise, this film has no redeeming features. It's shot in dreary shades of dark red and sludge-brown. The editing is lethargic and the acting boils down to lines being spoken... very... slowly... by gruff men. Seagal not only barely moves, he also holds his cigar as though it's too heavy for him. Worse: the film's scant violence feels lazy and underpowered. Really, truly dreadful.
