Stewart Granger, recalling his heyday in King Solomon's Mines, is a former white hunter who loathes the tourists he shows around the bush. One such tourist is top-billed Kaz Garas (plucked from American TV) and his mistress, Gabriella Licudi, who discover that Stewart is haunted by the death of his best pal under the feet of an elephant. When Stewart sets off to kill the elephant, Garas and Licudi go along, leading to all sorts of sub-sub-Hemingway stuff. Shot in Kenya and full of travelogue sequences, it squanders any drama in the story, while the location photography by Ted Moore, veteran of several Bond movies, is undermined by some eye-jarring process shots.
