Director John Suits clearly watched a whole bunch of sci-fi classics before making this unabashed B-movie, so why not save yourself the trouble of watching his dismal knockoff and seek out such originals as The Thing from Another World (1951), Alien (1979) and Resident Evil (2002)? Set in 2242, the action sees stowaway Noah (Cody Kearsley) boarding a spaceship dubbed the Ark (seriously) that is taking 300,000 cryogenically frozen souls to New Earth to begin again after humanity messed up big time. Hard-drinking janitor Clay Young (Bruce Willis) takes a shine to Noah, but is less well-disposed towards the alien parasite that somehow gets aboard and starts behaving in ravenously shape-shifting fashion. One can only feel sorry for the ailing Willis; this is one of a triptych (along with Hard Kill and Survive the Night) that earned him a Golden Raspberry nomination. No one involved set out to make a picture this bad, but the derivative action and thick-eared dialogue compound the issues generated by bargain-basement VFX. Worth seeing, if only for its witless wretchedness.
