Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Steve Morrissey

A loving homage to the slew of Tarantino-wannabe films that littered the 1990s, writer/director Francis Galluppi's feature debut is a gonzo 70s-set thriller that assembles a disparate bunch of fugitives, dimwits and oddballs at a remote diner out in the desert. The ensemble cast is headed by Jim Cummings, playing an unnamed travelling knife-salesman whose rest break is prolonged dramatically when a pair of bank robbers come bursting onto the scene. Soon enough, wordplay and gunplay vie for supremacy while the station's new acquaintances fight for survival. Galluppi's screenplay is packed with bone-dry laughs, and he and his cast deftly navigate the constantly shifting tensions. Like its marooned characters, the film runs a bit low on fuel towards the end, but by that point plenty of fun has been had. Galluppi demonstrates some real talent throughout.
