The ever-reliable Jackie Chan, now a septuagenarian, is in fine form with this engaging cop thriller. He plays a legendary police tracker, Wong, brought out of retirement to track down a criminal gang made up of attractive "pretty boys". They're led by the mysterious "Shadow" (Tony Leung Ka-fai), a calm, calculating pensioner who's almost impossible to find. But Wong is soon on his tail, along with rookie cop He Qiuguo (20-something Zhang Zifeng, who holds her own against the legendary Chan). The film opens with a lengthy, action-packed cyber-heist filled with Mission: Impossible-style dazzle that just keeps getting better and better. While the rest of the film doesn't quite replicate this inventiveness, it's still bursting with bust-ups - and knows when to insert a joke. Writer/director Larry Yang's script only lags a little when attempts are made to give the bad guys backstories. But when it needs to build tension - such as during a long, awkward elevator ride - it's superb.
