A star rating of 3 out of 5.
Tony Sloman
Character star George Arliss's great days were behind him when he returned to his native England to take on a dual role in this political potboiler, which is only held together by the sheer strength of Arliss's presence. The film's stage derivation seeps through the whole enterprise, and the combination of Boys' Own heroics and the politics of war is as hard to take today as it probably was then. But Arliss was undeniably a star, and those who only know his historical roles may enjoy seeing him in a contemporary part. In the USA, this was renamed Man of Affairs.
