Terry Staunton

A young butcher rounds up the usual suspects when his new motorbike is stolen in this 1980s-set comedy drama focusing on working-class movers and misfits in Bristol. Steven (David Perkins) and his older brother Andrew (Eugene Simon) navigate their way through a landscape of bullies, boozers and drug addicts to bring the culprits to book, but struggle to stay on the right side of the law. Writer/director William Stone's debut feature is an expanded remake of his award-winning student short, and the lengthier running time allows for more fleshed-out characters and sharp observations of folk on the fringes, who walk a tightrope between right and wrong. The caustic wit and casual violence brings to mind Shane Meadows's early work, and the film benefits enormously from a naturalistic young cast, with Perkins especially impressive as the victim turned vigilante.
