Prepare to have your heart gently warmed by this touching drama from Italian director Uberto Pasolini. James Norton plays John, a Belfast window cleaner and stoic single dad who is left reeling by a cancer diagnosis. Given just months to live, he embarks on a desperate search for the perfect parents to adopt his adorable four-year-old son (Daniel Lamont). As John interviews family after family with the help of social services, Norton delivers an incredibly moving performance. But it's his sweet mini co-star (who was cast after an open audition) who's the real revelation - thanks to Lamont's quietly expressive presence, the pair's scenes together feel tenderly naturalistic and are a joy to watch. Pasolini previously produced The Full Monty, and his 2013 film Still Life proved he could tackle emotional stories about those confronted with death. With Nowhere Special, he takes another subdued yet gut-wrenching look at mortality and loss, and the result is a beautiful film which finds meaning in small moments of intimacy, and shows that it's the love we leave behind that can be truly special.
