Terry Staunton

Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has arguably had more coverage in the tabloids than in the music press, and this fly-on-the-wall documentary, directed by his wife Katia deVidas, hopes to paint a more considered view of a clearly talented but equally troubled musician. Cameras trail him as he undergoes rehab for longstanding drugs addictions, while attempting to reignite the creative spark that brought him to the public's attention in the first place. Although the singer's drug issues aren't exactly glossed over, they're presented selectively by deVidas, who seems reluctant to rake over the coals of some of the more shocking episodes of her husband's past struggles. Despite that, this is an intimate portrait of a man whose rock 'n' roll lifestyle came close to killing him. And while it is unavoidably tinged with sadness, it's also not without hope for its subject.
