Summary

Long before director Peter Jackson achieved huge success for his epic, Oscar-winning version of The Lord of the Rings, he made his full-length feature debut with this cheerfully disgusting horror comedy. Jackson, who received an Oscar-nomination for 1994's psychological drama Heavenly Creatures (the film that launched the screen career of Kate Winslet), here directs in chaotic fashion, with large quantities of gore, flying viscera, macabre humour and wild special effects. Indeed, this man-eating alien invasion, made over a five-year period, remained the bloody benchmark of sci-fi horror until Jackson topped it himself five years later with Braindead. The title says it all so, be warned, those of a sensitive nature.
