America finds itself on the brink of another civil war in this well crafted political farce set in the near future from Gremlins director Joe Dante. Following a nuclear disaster in Pakistan, the US President (Phil Hartman) allows a group of refugee children to settle in Idaho. Governor Beau Bridges has other ideas and decides to close the state borders. Media frenzy escalates the conflict as the nation takes sides over the controversial issue. Bridges won an Emmy for his performance and he's well supported by James Coburn, Joanna Cassidy and James Earl Jones, while Dante piles on the social satire without resorting to preachiness.
