Kelly-Anne Taylor

Only You director Harry Wootliff's unflinching look at the destructive nature of a toxic relationship stars Ruth Wilson as Kate, a 30-something dreamer stifled by her job as a benefits officer - until a charming, nameless ex-convict that Kate calls Blond (Tom Burke) saunters in to make a claim. After a brief lunch date, the two end up heatedly succumbing to their mutual attraction in a car park. Kate quickly develops an unhealthy obsession, but Blond's unpredictable behaviour - he takes her on wild dates and then disappears for weeks - leaves her questioning his long-term intentions. The movie often feels uncomfortably real, and Wilson effortlessly captures the psychological turmoil of a woman seeking love from a person incapable of giving it. It's an elegant, raw and commendable performance in a film that plumbs the dangerous depths of desire and infatuation.
