Taking its title from a viral hashtag, #SeAcabó, this documentary takes a look at Spain's national women's football team, whose World Cup win in 2023 was immediately overshadowed when captain Jenni Hermoso was forcefully kissed on the mouth by male executive Luis Rubiales. As director Joanna Pardos makes clear in this well-researched report, the team had been facing management problems and outright sexism from their country's football federation for years. What emerges is a clear-eyed and propulsive story that deals not only with the failings of the male execs but the dispiriting way that these issues led to a split among the players, with some unwilling to jeopardise their careers by participating in collective complaint. Each of the women appears as an interviewee, providing compelling, lucid and personal commentary on the situation, while Hermoso is filmed in conversation with some of her teammates, underscoring the film's theme of a burgeoning solidarity. The final act, dealing with the fallout from the kiss itself, offers a string of moving and satisfying moments as it details how the team came together, spoke out, and finally forced a change.
