Documentaries about cults are commonplace, but this one is more stylishly produced and more arch in tone than most. It tackles the Unification Church, better known as the Moonies. Its founder Sun Myung Moon presented himself as the second coming of Christ: former members speak about their honest desire to save the world from Satan, while observers note the church’s aptitude for collecting money and its love of mass weddings.
The latter practice reflected the private life of Moon himself, who very much enjoyed the benefits of being a revered leader.
