Lionel Atwill stars in this golden era fright classic as the mad sculptor re-populating his burnt-down museum with wax-covered murder victims. Fay Wray supplies the screams (as she did so memorably in King Kong in the same year), as well as the magic moment where she cracks Atwill's false face to reveal the scars beneath, and Glenda Farrell shines as a wise-cracking reporter. The inspiration for the later House of Wax, this Grand Guignol outing boasts fabulous sets, zippy pacing, surprising frankness and marvellously evocative early two-strip Technicolor.
