Summary
Sci-fi action adventure starring Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt. Humanoid alien Mills is on a two-year mission when he crash-lands on an uncharted planet. Discovering that the only other survivor is a young girl named Koa, he attempts to keep her safe while repairing the ship. However, that is made difficult by the planet's deadly ecosystem, which includes a thriving population of dinosaurs.

The promising mix of dinosaurs and a laser-rifle-toting Adam Driver fails to catch fire in this underwhelming and derivative sci-fi survivalist thriller. The story begins 65 million years ago, as Driver's humanoid alien undertakes an exploratory mission to pay for his ailing daughter's medical bills. When his spaceship crashes on a Cretaceous-era Earth, he tries to help nine-year-old fellow survivor Ariana Greenblatt to safety, across terrain populated by prehistoric predators. Writer/directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who co-wrote A Quiet Place, imbue this environment with many tangible dangers, and Driver's physicality and warmth are well utilised. Greenblatt impresses, too, as she projects both fear and fortitude. But their efforts are hampered by the rudimentary plot, which lumbers between set pieces with scant sense of pace or character development. The action sequences are equally half-baked, leaving the dinos stripped of majesty, while a climax that echoes countless 90s disaster films is further proof that 65 has precious few ideas of its own.
