"I've been called a witch, a slut and a murderer," begins this frank and fascinating documentary about style icon, actor, model and muse Anita Pallenberg. She was born in Rome in 1942 and soon uprooted by the war, instilling in her a restless spirit. After travelling to New York at the age of 19 and becoming involved in the pop art scene, a modelling career took her to Munich and a fateful first encounter with the Rolling Stones. She became the girlfriend of her blond doppelganger Brian Jones, before embarking on a more lasting relationship with Keith Richards, all the while pursuing a movie career in the likes of Barbarella and Performance (featuring yet another Stone, Mick Jagger). The discovery after her death in 2017 of her unpublished memoir Black Magic allows Pallenberg to tell her own story (with Scarlett Johansson providing her voice), illustrated by incredible home-movie archive footage, and with Keith and the couple's grown-up children, Marlon and Angela, among the contributors. Pallenberg's lifestyle led her down some dark paths - and she is frank in her descriptions of her drug abuse and failings as a parent - but she emerges from it all triumphant, a formidable force of nature and a true bohemian free spirit.
