A star rating of 4 out of 5.

The epic musical fantasy comes to a rousing close in a glitzy, show-stopping take on the second act of the stage-show smash. Following Wicked: Part I, green-skinned spell-caster Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) has been ostracised from Oz, thanks to the scheming Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and his crony Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). Meanwhile, Glinda (Ariana Grande-Butera) is prepping for her marriage to Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), still torn over her feelings for her friend Elphaba. Cunningly weaving in characters from the tale's original source material, The Wizard of Oz, director Jon M Chu infuses excitement into every frame. Nathan Crowley's production design is again glorious, a cornucopia of colour that even includes an under-construction Yellow Brick Road. Two new songs by Stephen Schwartz, the co-creator of the stage musical, don't make much of an impression, but it hardly matters when you've got Erivo and Grande-Butera hitting the highest of notes. Despite some questionable CGI moments that can detract from the film's immersive style, this will surely satisfy Wicked's extensive army of devotees.
