Is The Franchise hugely exaggerated?

I think it’s not that far away from the truth — people would be surprised at how chaotic these sets can be. You can’t underestimate how much can go wrong in one day when you have hundreds of personalities clashing.

You were working on Mission: Impossible — Fallout when things went wrong…

The day I was filming Mission: Impossible was the day that Tom Cruise broke his ankle jumping into a window. So, I was there for one of the most intense days, which does feel like something that would happen in The Franchise.

Did you know Richard E Grant and Armando Iannucci before this began?

I’d met Richard doing Saltburn, so on set I could go, “Guys, he’s actually my friend.” And Armando is my comedy hero. I did This Time with Alan Partridge, and that was huge for me. On this I love everyone involved, but it’s definitely nerve-racking. It helps that my character, Dag, holds her own. I can just pretend that I’m channelling Dag when I’m among these stars.

There are some horrid people in The Franchise. Do you guard against becoming a monster?

Definitely. You’re treated so nicely [on set] that you are almost being led into becoming a terrible person. You do have to keep your feet on the ground. Obviously, it’s tempting to become a diva… but I can’t let myself.
