MOTD Live: FIFA World Cup 2026 | France v Senegal
2026
Sport
France v Senegal (Kick-off 8.00pm). Gabby Logan presents all the action from the opening match in Group I, held at New York/New Jersey Stadium in the USA. These teams famously met in the opening match of the 2002 finals, when Senegal produced one of the great World Cup upsets by prevailing 1-0 against the then holders thanks to a goal by Papa Bouba Diop. Should the Senegalese prevail today it would not be a shock of quite the same magnitude, given they reached the last 16 in 2022 and initially won last year's Africa Cup of Nations before being stripped of the title. However, France will still be expecting to triumph tonight and be major contenders to win the tournament given they have reached the last two finals, defeating Croatia to lift the trophy in 2018 and losing out to Argentina on penalties four years ago. Their squad boasts the talents of the likes of Ballon d'or winner Ousmane Dembélé, and Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the 2022 final. MOTD Live: FIFA World Cup 2026 | Iraq v Norway
2026
Sport
Iraq v Norway (Kick-off 11.00pm). Kelly Cates presents coverage of both teams' first match in Group I, held at Boston Stadium in the USA. Iraq are making only their second appearance in the finals, with the other coming back in 1986, when they lost all three games in the group stage. It will be a big ask for them to fare better this time around with Senegal and France also in this group, but a positive result tonight would give them a fighting chance of progressing. Norway are also without a recent appearance on this stage, having not qualified since 1998, but they have a number of big-name players in their ranks, including prolific Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard. With analysis from Ellen White and Ashley Williams

FIFA World Cup 2026 | Episode 11
2026
Sport
Argentina v Algeria (Kick-off 2.00am). Laura Woods presents coverage of the Group J match at Kansas City Stadium in the USA, as the reigning champions play their first game in defence of their title. The South Americans beat France on penalties in the 2022 final after the game had ended 3-3 after extra-time in one of the most thrilling finals of all time, with France's Kylian Mbappe scoring only the second ever hat-trick in a World Cup final. That was Argentina's third success at this tournament after victories in 1978 and 1986. They will be looking to become just the third country to retain the trophy and the first to do it since Brazil won back-to-back titles in 1958 and 1962. Their opponents today are playing in their first World Cup since 2014, when they made it through to the last 16 before losing to eventual winners Germany 2-1 after extra-time. That was the African country's best performance at this tournament after failing to make it out of the group stage in their other two appearances at the finals. With analysis from Patrick Vieira, Karen Carney and Duncan Ferguson, and commentary by Seb Hutchinson and Andros Townsend

Austria have reached their first World Cup finals since 1998 after finishing top of their qualifying group, winning six and drawing one of their eight matches, beating the likes of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Cyprus to an automatic place at this tournament.
