Toyah, how tough do you think Strictly is going to be?
Toyah Well, I’ve been touring for two years so I’m battle-hardened, and I have a house with five floors, so I’m very fit. I have a background in dance after ballet school and theatre school, but it doesn’t mean I’m a dancer.

So you have some advantages going in — any disadvantages to overcome?
Toyah My age, my height. At the launch, the first thing we had to do was run straight across the floor, and I probably have to do one-and-a-half more steps than Neil to hit that moment. Then there’s the science of timing, placement and how you use your joints. It’s way beyond me.
Neil When we walked in, with everyone talking and getting ready, I saw Toyah going through the routine on her own, practising every single step. I thought, “She’s a hard worker. I’ve been waiting for a while [for a partner], so this is brilliant!”

What else do you want to get from the experience?
Toyah I don’t see myself as very ladylike or very feminine, so I’m really looking forward to being feminised in the Strictly way. And I want to say to people who love the idea of dancing but don’t move enough, that movement can heal you. It can change your life so much. When we danced for the launch, I’ve never felt so well.
