MOTD Live: FIFA World Cup 2026 | Spain v Saudi Arabia
2026
Sport
Spain v Saudi Arabia (Kick-off 5.00pm). Kelly Cates presents coverage of both teams' second match in Group H, which comes from Atlanta Stadium in the USA. The last meeting between the teams was a friendly in 2012, when Spain claimed an emphatic 5-0 win back when they were the holders of this trophy. The Spaniards came into this tournament with high hopes of winning the competition once again and will be strong favourites to prevail in this match. However, the Saudis have invested a great deal of money into football in recent years and will be looking to demonstrate that the growing strength of their domestic league, which has attracted star names from across the world, has had a positive effect on their national team. Both sides played their opening group games on Monday as Saudi Arabia drew 1-1 with Uruguay, while Spain were held to a surprising 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in the first real shock of the tournament. With analysis from Wayne Rooney, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thomas Frank

Belgium v Iran (Kick-off 8.00pm). Group G continues at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, USA, where the sides face each other for the first time in their history. Some of the Iranian players may be familiar to fans of England and Wales, having been drawn in the same group four years ago in Qatar, with mixed results. A 6-2 drubbing at the hands of England was followed by a 2-0 win against Wales, with both goals coming deep into injury time. They'll start as underdogs here against Belgium, whose manager Rudi Garcia is leading them for the first time in a major finals, having taken over the reins at the start of last year. Despite a star-studded squad, Belgium have flattered to deceive and were ignominiously dumped out of the tournament four years ago, scoring just one goal, and that in an unconvincing win against Canada. Both these sides drew their opening group matches with Belgium drawing 1-1 against Egypt, while Iran twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with New Zealand. Mark Pougatch presents, with analysis from Emma Hayes, Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane, and commentary by Joe Speight and Lucy Ward

MOTD Live: FIFA World Cup 2026 | Uruguay v Cape Verde
2026
Sport
Uruguay v Cape Verde (Kick-off 11.00pm). Alex Scott presents all the action from both teams' second match in Group H, held at Miami Stadium in the USA. Uruguay bounced back from the disappointment of an early elimination four years ago in Qatar, to some extent, by finishing third in the 2024 Copa America, staged in the United States, and came into the tournament fancied to qualify from this group alongside Spain. Cape Verde are something of an unknown quantity as this is the first World Cup finals they have qualified for and this is their first meeting with today's opponents, but this competition has a long history of minnows upsetting the odds in the early stages, and the African outfit will be determined to make an impact. They started off their tournament with a surprise 0-0 draw against current European Champions Spain on Monday, while Uruguay held Saudi Arabia to a 1-1 draw. With analysis from Ashley Williams and Benni McCarthy

New Zealand v Egypt (Kick-off 2.00am). Semra Hunter presents coverage of the second Group G match for both sides, which takes place at BC Place Vancouver in Canada. New Zealand had yet to win a fixture at a World Cup finals in their previous attempts in 1982 and 2010 but, in part due to the huge number of teams now taking part, they were afforded one of the most comfortable paths to qualification of all nations. They defeated Tahiti, Samoa and Vanuatu in the group stage of the Oceania section, and followed that with knockout victories against Fiji and New Caledonia, with Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood finishing that campaign as the leading scorer. This fixture should prove a much greater test of their credentials, in the first meeting between the sides since March 2024, when New Zealand finished fourth of four nations in the FIFA Series: Egypt. A Mostafa Mohamed Ahmed Abdallah penalty was the difference between the two on that occasion, and victory for either here would be a huge step towards reaching the knockout stage. New Zealand led twice in their opening group game on Monday before drawing 2-2 with Iran, while Egypt had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Belgium. With analysis from Ange Postecoglou and Jobi McAnuff
